Hey everyone!
First of all I'd like to thank everyone who showed up for the Interest Meeting, you guys wrock. I'm going to post a pretty funny video of us getting ready, so keep an eye out for that. For those of you that couldn't be there, here's a basic outline of what we talked about (or tried to anyway ;) ):
The HPA:
The Harry Potter Alliance (as most of you know) is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization, founded by Andrew Slack and Paul DeGeorge in 2005. We strive to bring Harry Potter fans together to fight the 'dark arts' of today's society, making us the "Dumbledore's Army for the real world"
HPA Projects:
We also discussed some of the current (and past) Harry Potter Alliance projects, such as "Wizard Rock the Vote" and "Wrocking Out Against Voldemedia". (I see a pattern here, do you? =P ) For more information on those projects check out: www.thehpalliance.org
DA-NC:
The last thing we went over were the current goals for Dumbledore's Army-North Carolina. These are just basic goals to get us started and can be changed.
1.) Wrocking Out Against Voldemedia- This seems to be the project that most of our members (and myself) have the most interest in and we are ready to help out the HPA in any way for this project.
2.) Breaking Out of the 'Muggle Mindset'- Because being different is a good thing!
3.) Meeting other fans - This one is pretty self explanatory, we want to team up with other fans and other chapters and have some fun!
We also passed around some ideas for meetings (both serious and non). Ideas like a "write in" or "Wizard Rockumentary Party", and we are now ready to start brainstorming projects of our own. I'm starting a thread in the forum for brainstorming and suggestions, so be sure to check that out.
In other news, Hawthorn and Holly are holding a house party and asked us to hold a meeting! The meeting is scheduled for Sunday, October 5th in Fort Mill, SC. I know that's a bit far for some of you, but it'll be a lot of fun, so try to carpool and make it out there. Look at the "Events" section for more details on that. :)
